Brocton Online Website Project

Introduction

The village of Brocton is a small community on the outskirts of the county town of Stafford. I lived in the village between 1993 and 2001 while I was growing up and until I graduated from university. My parents still live in the village. In 2000 I created Brocton Online, a community website for residents and visitors to the village.

Objective

To create a community website where people can find out what is going on in the village, the history of the village, and details of local events.

Intended Audience

• Residents and previous residents of village
• Visitors & potential visitors to the village
• People thinking of moving to the village

Features

• Ability for users to post their own news and events to the website
• History of the village
• Village photo album
• Community forum

Technology

Combinations of off-the-shelf and custom written PHP scripts were used to create the community forum, news posting and event posting services. The rest of the website was written using HTML.
